When Porsche Was Wild.
On a lovely weekend in Southfields, I visited Joe Macari cars to look through their amazing collections. Among the collection,
the first one that came into my eyes was 993 GT2. Check out the story about this street weapon.
The Last of the Air-Cooled Warriors.
The 993 generation marked the final chapter of the air-cooled era in Porsche 911 history. Its flat-six, air-cooled engine was
more than just a powertrain — it was the soul of Porsche engineering. And the 993 GT2? It was the last GT racing
machine to carry that soul.
With the arrival of the 996 generation, water-cooling replaced tradition. What was lost wasn’t just a cooling method — it was a sound, a sensation, a philosophy.
No ABS. No Traction Control. No Excuses.
This wasn’t a car that helped you drive fast — it demanded that you deserve speed. Built for the circuit and lightened to the extreme, it ran a twin-turbocharged flat-six that pushed out over 430 hp to the rear wheels only.
It was notorious for its wild rear-end slides and razor-sharp throttle response. It wasn’t just driven. It had to be tamed.
And for that, it became known as the final machine of a time when men battled machines.
“The 993 GT2 is not merely a car.
It is the final roar of the
air-cooled era — a fierce dialogue between man and machine.”
Only around 194 street-legal units of the 993 GT2 were ever made. Even fewer exist in Club Sport specification.
Today, it’s one of the most sought-after classics, with auction prices ranging from £1M to £2M and rising. Among collectors and purists, it’s often called “the ultimate 911.”
Dangerous. Brutal. Beautiful.
Before cars became smart, they were wild. Before driving became safe, it was instinctive.
The 993 GT2 represents the final high-performance
machine from an analog world —
A world with no ESC, no driving modes, no filters.
Even now, it stands as a symbol of pure, unapologetic mechanical violence — a gladiator at the edge of control.
